12 Inches

Thanks to AGDA awards for sending in this 2008 Packaging Distinction winner designed by War Design.
“Imagine being briefed to create striking packaging for a product named after the height of the bottle it’s packaged in. With only small print runs required, there was a real opportunity to have some fun. The solution was to design labels that were also 12″ long, printed onto packing tape using different colours to identify different variants. The labels wrap around the bottle creating a powerful and memorable branding device.”

Decorative matches

Gotta love these flora match boxes!
I found these at a boutique in Yaletown, Vancouver, and they do a bang up job of sprucing up our bathrooms. Normally there are generic matchboxes scattered about the countertops, so I gathered all those up, stored them in a dry place for later use, and now these beautiful boxes are sitting next to the soap dispensers. I know this next sentence may be going too far, but now we feel a little more stylish when cleaning up after a poo.

Spa Flowering Tea

Thanks to Benjamin Ridgway of Make Brand studio for sending in the company's recently completed Tea Packaging for an Irish food company called Solaris Botanicals. The packaging featured a spot varnish to communicate the water aspect of the product and blooming effect of the tea when immersed in water.
"The brief was to create packaging for a tea product that was not only for consumption but with had sense of occasion around it. Blooming tea when put in hot water flowers, blooms and infuses the water it's put in, this was a really interesting process that had to be visualised in the design. Aimed at the luxury tea market a clean professional approach was necessary, the finishes we used were spot UV to get across the water aspect of the products and to make this product stand out on the shelf. All in all it worked out well and has had a great response by their retailers so far."

Redesign of Cristal

"Peru is geographically a divided country, this was reflected in the market share of the 3 major beer brands, with each brand dominating a specific territory. The brands had overlapping positionings and little to differentiate the product characteristics. In 2005 a competitor, Brahma, entered the market and took quickly market share, largely through pricing. Cristal had lost it's market leadership.

To regain leadership a full brand renovation programme was initiated. The Brand Union team visited the market, undertaking an immersion trip to get to grips with the brand at the point of sale and consumption. This inspired creative development around the brand bright idea 'The beer of the Peruvian people'."

Rosangel Tequila

Thanks to Tom Schuyler from M Booth & Associates for sending in this really lovely pink Rosangel packaging. It is a new tequila from Gran Centenario. Rosangel is a hibiscus infused tequila rested in port barrels for two months imbuing a pink color. In 1920, Lazaro’s son Luciano, decided to bottle Gran Centenario. Inspired by the Art Deco style of architecture, he designed a bottle similar to the one we use today.
"The label exemplifies and distinguishes the traditions associated with the history of Tequila and the Gallardo family. The angel is symbolic of the guards that were commissioned by Lazaro Gallardo to watch over his oak barrels every night. The coin at the bottom of the bottle represents the family’s currency with the name of the father, and creator, Lazaro Gallardo. "
