Don't bottles do this? As my understanding goes, canned beers are often of lesser quality, so hiding what they look like is pretty common practice.

Very interesting project.
Were you dropped on your head? What's inside a can or bottle can be good or bad, the package itself does not intrinsically make it one way or the other. It's just a vehicle for delivering what's inside. There are advantages and disadvantages to both packages, which is why beer is available in multiple types. Where on Earth would such an "understanding" come from?
