Jump Start is an internship program at Saltmine Design Group, offering recent graduates and students insight and experience in working in the packaging design industry.

During their month long stint at the agency, each intern completes a fictitious brief guiding them through the creative process from conceptual ideas to their finished design.

A different brief is set each term with four different interns completing the same brief per term. Lee Barnsley, Design Director at Saltmine Design Group explains more... “We wanted an intern to be able to leave Saltmine with a complete project in their portfolio that they had total authorship over. Often, interns get to help out on live projects in an agency but never get to be part of the whole evolution of packaging design from the initial brief to creating the final visuals.”

“The previous term saw some very interesting concepts for Australian spice company Hoyt’s. 4 Students were given a brief to redesign their packaging students, with Belinda Toseski’s work really standing out. Belinda’s approach was to really bring to life the origin story for Hoyt’s herbs and spices, through hand drawn illustrations integrated with a clever use of windows enabling consumers to see the real product inside. Belinda’s work and passion for packaging resulted in her being offered a full-time position and we’re proud to welcome Belinda into Saltmine’s growing design team”.
