Nula Soy have perfected and produced a range of exceptional English-made soy wax candles, fragranced using only 100% pure certified organic essential oils. Each mesmerising candle has been meticulously crafted to evoke the essence of a beautiful place. At present, the worldwide journey consists of six locations – Elizabethan Gardens, Las Pampas, Maui Beach, Bali, Blue Mountains and Peaceful Earth.

Visual Sense was tasked with creating the branding for Nula Soy, the packaging (both the glassware and external packaging) and the accompanying website. This was an immersive design experience, reflecting the brand through every touchpoint – the packaging being perhaps the most critical.

Branding – The Nula Soy marque the has a natural organic character, to fully reflect the character of the candles. We developed a marque that had both a seed-like (organic/natural) and also flame-like (candles) quality. The left-hand side of the marque always carries the main brand colours – brown and green to reflect the organic qualities of the brand. The colours on the right-hand side of the marque are matched to the fragrance colour. As an identity it’s quite fluid and adaptable.

Illustrations – All illustrations were created in-house and were developed in close context with the client, so that we could accurately portray the fragrance of each candle. The fragrance elements are visually portrayed within each candle’s unique illustration. We’ve used both literal and metaphoric visual clues for each fragrance e.g for Maui Beach we included illustrations of both the Pikake flower and also the moon as this is the time of the day when the flower’s fragrance is released.

Glassware – The colours of the glassware were adapted from existing swatches sent from the colour-coaters, we modified these to closely match colours from each candle’s accompanying illustration – this was an iterative process to get the colours just right.

What’s Unique?
Telescopic packaging – the unique element for this project was the ‘reveal’. We chose to make the outer tube slightly shorter and deliberately simple, so that an enticing glimpse of the illustration on the inner tube can be seen. We wanted the packaging to be an emotive experience, from the first glimpse of the packaging to the slow reveal of the full illustration and finally the candle inside – a journey for both the visual and olfactory senses.
