In the mid-18th century,French Catholic priest Xudong Wu came to shangri-la in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Because here most tibetans are devout buddhist, Catholic development is very difficult and few tibetans are Catholics. Due to need to prepare wine for the Mass , Mr Wu planted Rose Honey grapes around the church for wine-making .The grape seeds were brought from France. He passed on his experience to the local people. Today, the habit of brewing wine is kept and the most residents around the church earn their living by planting grapes and brewing wine. The Rose Honey grape has already disappeared in France while blooms in shangri-la.

This year is 95th anniversary of the death of Mr Wu. The church want to produce a wine to commemorate him. When designing the label, we hope to use the legend local elements. We were inspired by Thang-ga art which is exquisite, graceful and mostly stroked with golden color, has distinctive regional characteristics. We expressed the skillful and refined idea by designing such a picture that the church was surrounded by the mountains. It reflected the real terrain. Today, it is still a hard journey to visit the church. On a deeper level , we want to express the spirit that the Cizhong Cathedral’s catholics survive and never give up their beliefs in this region where buddhism has a strong position.
