Packaging Substrate / Materials: Cardboard

The purpose of this project was to protect enough the egg so that when you let it fall, it wouldn’t break. We could only use paper or cardboard. Any other materials were forbidden.

The concept was based on a basket. Given that egg is an important element in the “basic basket” of Mexican families, I decided to recreate this in the packaging. The colors, pattern and inspiration is based on craftmanship: either building a basket or cooking a perfect meal out of eggs, this is a feature I wanted to be present.

The pattern was made by hand, and the color palette was taken from a moodboard that showed arts, crafts, baskets… and eggs.

Name was based on a yellow flower (alhelí) that’s known for its beauty, perfume and delicateness, characteristics that are also linked to the “crafty” concept. The “h” was moved to the beginning of the word to emphasize that the product is an egg. “Egg” in Spanish is “huevo”.
