The roots of Peruvian chocolate
Maraná is a small batch craft chocolate maker from Perú producing chocolate bars with cocoa from 3 different areas of Peru: Piura (coast), Cusco (andes) and San Martin (rainforest). ICONO was entrusted with the creation of the brand identity as well as the design and development of packaging for their chocolate bars, special gift or tasting sets and, most recently, their new product lines.

Maraná in 2020 expanded its portfolio to include new products within the same brand territory. The objective was to showcase the Peruvian origin and craftsmanship of these select products; illustrations were developed for each product inspired by Peruvian craftsmanship.

What’s Unique?
For the launch of their new product Chocotejas, a typical Peruvian sweet with chocolate coating and innovative fillings using Peruvian nuts and fruits, we were inspired by the craftsmanship of the retablos (altarpieces) one of the most recognized artistic expressions of the Andean region of Peru, and a clear demonstration of the skill and mastery of the artisans of the area. For the packaging, we created an illustration that included elements such as the cocoa fruit, as well as a vivid color palette inspired by typical Andean garments. The result is a box of chocotejas with a sophisticated Peruvian personality and artisanal character.
