A selection of words in the Newspeak language and passages from George Orwell’s 1984 set in typeface Avenir Next.

The words may not be familiar but the definitions are all too real today. Newspeak is a form of language intended to control by restricting vocabulary. Limiting the words used to express ideas thoughts can be controlled. Removing words and destroying ideas can erase history and manipulate the future.

Total control can be achieved. War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.

What’s Unique?
Designed for the dystopian novel 1984, about a British state with an authoritarian dictatorship known as Big Brother, to act as a dictionary for the Newspeak language.
