St Erhard is a small brewery in Bamberg, southern Germany. They started their business in 2011, and in 2017 the brewery decided to develop their packaging design while working to appeal to a more design-oriented audience.

The visual solution is a contemporary reference to Bauhaus principles with geometry as the basis for both the graphic elements and typography. Initially, the design has been used for three different beers — Farmer, Mayflower and Saison — but the typographic system is flexible and allows the brewery to easily expand with more beers within the same series without losing the visual recognition.

The result is a new visual expression that is distinctive on the German store shelves — while most German breweries continue to communicate tradition, St. Erhard stands for innovation.
