Kolhapuri chappals are famous handcrafted footwear made in kolhapur town in Maharashtra. As these are handcrafted pure leather ethnic footwear. Traditional Kolhapuri Chappal is exquisitely and eco-friendly. The Kolhapuri footwear is one of a kind. The Kolhapuri was pioneered by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of the Maratha Empire and given the royal respect that the beautifully crafted Kolhapuri footwear deserves.

Despite its success, Kolhapuri chappals are generally packed in newspaper or in plastic results into damaged product. Kolhapuri chappals do not have any platform to establish their product as a brand. I have come up with the packaging solution not just in terms of form/function but also in terms of branding and to enhance the experience and take the footwear ’s recognition to an international level.

The idea was to develop a sustainable packaging which goes on to be a part of the product post purchase as well. The ethnic packaging not only creates relation with the culture but also emphasis on reuse and recycle. The material used is washable in nature and hence the product can be kept in the package after multiple usage providing better maintenance free of cost. Its easy to carry. Also, the packaging creates point of interest which leads to brand promotion in aesthetics as well as usability factors.

What's Unique?
First of a kind packaging solution for Kolhapuri Chappals in the commercial sphere.

The packaging creates a traditional experience through modern approach which enhances the visuals add value by creating a handcrafted appeal. The graphics promote the brand for easy identifiable and recall value.

The handcrafted Jute fabric resembles with Kolhapuri handcrafted chappals (Footwear). The material used for packaging is of Jute fabric which is moisture resistant and 100% bio-degradable, recyclable and eco-friendly.

The red tassel elevates the experience of our kolhapuri chappal culture and tradition. The color and pattern are inspired from the Fabindia brand as well as the Kolhapuri chappal (Footwear) itself. The jute string/handle eliminates the need of a carry bay, thus saving paper and avoiding the use of plastic bags.

The tag will promote the Kolhapur and Maharashtra tourism and also about the size, cost of the product and Fabindia brand, thus creating awareness of the history and background of years of expertise that Kolhapuri manufacturers have.
