Adventure Stories worked closely with the Cornish Distilling Co. to both conceive and design the branding for Mooncurser, their new Spiced Rum, and part of the new wave of Craft Distilled Real British Rums.

Scratch-distilled just outside Bude on the North Cornish Coast, Mooncurser evokes the ruthless spirit of Cornwall’s smuggling heritage. This sentiment runs throughout the design, balancing a sense of minimal simplicity with a hidden dark twist.

From bespoke typography to hand-painted illustration, Adventure Stories worked across the spectrum to ensure that every facet of the brand was crafted to match the discerning standards with which it is distilled.

What’s Unique?
From a category point of view this is representative of the burgeoning British Craft Rum scene. This marks a move away from large multi-national brands, (traditionally the preserve of the rum category) towards locally produced, high-quality small batch production. A move which has been recently gaining much press for the growing movement.

From a design point of view, Mooncurser defines defines itself as distinct from the maximalist approach to spirit design, using instead a sense of crafted simplicity to stand out from the crowd. With an appropriate sense of secrecy, the design gives more than might first appear..the moon holds a hidden twist.
