Legendary Gagauz hospitality is an integral part of this vivid and distinctive ethnicity living in the south of Moldova. No expense is spared for a dear guest, as they should feel at home. An example of hospitable Gagauz traditions is “ciotra” (pronounced cho-tra) – a wooden vessel resembling a flask, which holds the best wine in the household. It is used to serve the dearest guests and friends, especially during such notable events as a wedding, birthday, etc. So when the Cherven family has decided to launch a limited series of premium wines, the name for this new product was in plain sight. And the label design was traditionally handled by our studio.

The main task when developing the packaging design for the series of limited wines Ciotra by the Gagauz family winery was to communicate the premium quality of the new product while retaining the producer’s distinct ethnic character. This wine is the centerpiece of a festive table, so we’ve focused on creating an image that would look expensive, exquisite, intense. The combination of black and gold is a classic color solution that allows to focus one’s attention on the premium character of the wine, which is further emphasized by the abundance of tactile varnish and golden foil stamping in different parts of the label. At the same time, all graphic elements feature a distinct ethnic style, already familiar to many from the standard product line by KaraGani. As a result, the design effectively communicates the winemaker’s original concept – a vivid wine with a Gagauz accent, from the host’s special stash kept exclusively for dear guests.
