Cerveja Nortada is a craft beer brand that’s always looking for new challenges!

In 2020, we decided to launch the campaign “12 months, 12 beers”, the biggest brewing challenge that we have ever faced. It’s about testing our production capacity and imagination. But that’s not all – we embraced the more cultural side of the brand and are collaborating with 12 different artists to develop 12 different and creative labels.

We want to dare people with one different beer per month and show them that craft beer is delicious, versatile and a perfect fit for every occasion.

“Blueberry Storm” was the first launch of this challenge. To develop the artwork for the label it was important to represent the flavours and the different ingredients of the beer. The main features of this Extra Stout were the added fresh blueberries to the characteristic coffee flavour of this beer style.

The challenge for André Gomes, an illustrator from Arouca, Portugal, was to find a way to represent this in the label. André refers that his main objective was “to find out which graphic elements would work to represent the beer profile whilst adding the quirky and funny elements that characterise the Nortada brand. Taking inspiration from the name “Blueberry Storm” I thought that monkeys drinking beer and blueberries flying around a tornado would be perfect, as a representation of a true flavor storm. Why monkeys? I just thought it was funny.”
