Cerveja Nortada is a craft beer brand that’s always looking for new challenges!

In 2020, we decided to launch the campaign “12 months, 12 beers”, the biggest brewing challenge that we have ever faced. It’s about testing our production capacity and imagination. But that’s not all – we embraced the more cultural side of the brand and are collaborating with 12 different artists to develop 12 different and creative labels.

We want to dare people with one different beer per month and show them that craft beer is delicious, versatile and a perfect fit for every occasion.

We were preparing a New England IPA to be launched as a celebration of our third anniversary when the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to shut down our brewery. With the beer already fermenting we had to rethink the launch strategy.

We decided to name this beer “Obrigado” and convert it into an homage to the frontline heroes who are fighting for a future where we can all toast together again. Because we felt it was important to contribute to the cause, we partnered with the Portuguese Red Cross to donate all the revenue of this beer to the fight against COVID-19.

For the artwork design, we didn’t want to focus on the characteristics of the beer itself but rather represent a wide range of professionals who have been the most important during this time. For obvious reasons, the doctor gets the spotlight!

The challenge for Patrícia Cardoso, an illustrator from Lisbon, Portugal, was to find a way to translate this visually. Patrícia says “To create the composition, I got the inspiration from superheroes movie posters as a way to represent our true everyday heroes. With this approach, I simultaneously wanted to represent that they’re all important and that together, we are stronger!”
