JOMZ MAKAN is a Malaysian playing cards deck, open for all to play. JOMZ MAKAN is based on the vast array of cuisines from Malaysia’s melting pot of cultures such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, and more. Thanks to Malaysia’s cultural diversity, we all get to savor the different flavors and specialty dishes of each culture. Some food may not be originated from Malaysia, but they are heavily loved by Malaysians and have become a part of our lives.

I started this project by first creating a survey that tackles the questions of which food best represents the card character (King, Queen, Jack & Joker). This survey was then distributed to a group of Malaysians of different age groups and races. After collecting and analyzing the survey data, the card characters were determined and the design process began. The art style was inspired by other contemporary card decks with similar styles.

What’s Unique?
JOMZ MAKAN aims to be a conversation starter and a fun party game for friends and family to enjoy. Players are free to play anything with the cards, at the same time, learning about the Malaysian food culture in a fun and interactive way.
