Balchão Mama is a fiery red prawn and pickled curry sauce from India’s sunshine state, Goa.

The dish traditionally uses dried prawns. However, in this case the mother of Chef Pablo Miranda of Patrão’s Deli, pickles fresh juicy prawns in the sauce which makes it unique. Her well-guarded recipe has long been a favourite with the neighbouring community.

As a tribute to his mother, Chef Pablo wanted to crown the offering he was going to sell with a befitting title.

Thus was born Balchão Mama.

For the label, the name itself sits on a contemporary plaque shaped frame, below which we crafted a striking graphic representation of the chef’s mother in the form of a modern day Medusa, complete with whimsical prawns seamlessly forming part of her radiant tresses, and set on a subtle tiled wall backdrop.

The visual vocabulary – using a shade that best represents the offering along with an overall design approach which is unique to the category, further serves to enhance the entire packaging concept. It also helps it be distinctive amongst the clutter of offerings in the category.

What’s Unique?
Visual graphic representation of the sauce’s maker in the form of a modern day Medusa with whimsical prawns forming part of her radiant tresses.

A striking and unique visual vocabulary for this and any other category.
