Studio More, a brand design agency specialising in ambitious early-stage companies, reveals Oatshakes, the NPD that helped independently-sold brand FOGA, gain a listing at Sainsbury’s. The Oatshakes range is launching into Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, independent food retailers, and online now. This project marks a new partnership between Studio More and clean food brand FOGA.

When the FOGA team were offered an opportunity to list a range of new product development in Sainsbury’s, there was one caveat: the branded packaging had to look major-multiple shelf-worthy. To address this, FOGA partnered with Studio More to develop the look for a new range of three high-protein breakfast shakes made from simple whole food ingredients.

Specifically, the brief was to build on the existing brand to packaging design for this new breakfast shakes range and stand out in the protein/meal replacement shake market, whilst communicating the wide-ranging benefits of the ingredients and delivering natural food cues crucial to the range’s success. But another important point was ensuring that the FOGA brand was prominent, given this incredible opportunity to expand awareness of this young brand to a national audience via Sainsbury’s.

The Oatshake pack is now infused with bright hits of colour, reflecting the range’s exciting flavour combinations, which spans three delicious blends: Blueberry Pie, Peanut Butter & Berries, and Strawberry & Raspberry. Conscious of the fast-growing shift to the e-commerce sales channel, Studio More featured the FOGA logo and variant name prominently on the pack to enable ease of recognition.

The brand prides itself on its range being the cleanest on the market, as well as packing a punch with product benefits: “We use the highest quality whole, freeze-dried, organic fruit and veg - you’ll never find the extracts, juices, sweeteners or flavourings that are in most other powders. Compared to a bottled smoothie, our shakes are nutritionally superior - with half the sugar, half the calories, double the fibre and three times the vitamin C”, comments co-founder Phoebe Thirlwell-Pearce . Studio More drew attention to this on-pack with a series of icons that address common consumer check-points: Organic ingredients, Vegan, 1 of your five a day, Quick & easy to prepare, as well as the number of servings contained within the pack.
“It’s always an exciting time when a young brand makes the monumental leap from indie stockists to major multiples, and we’re always proud to be entrusted with a brand’s visual appearance on this journey. Our work with FOGA not only helped ease them into Sainsbury’s, but the project output also created a framework for future product development, which means the brand can expand with confidence into new avenues,” said Nikita Yan, Studio More managing director.
