When Triple Eye, a design collective based in the south of India decided to release a set of stickers designed by various designers, illustrators, artists and photographers who worked with the collective, the idea was to design packaging that would allow a sense of mystery, curating a random selection of stickers within the pack. However, financial constraints and a limited initial offering meant that the cost of packaging for each set had to be as minimal as possible—with bespoke packaging printed in bulk not being an option.

To overcome this as much of the structural packaging was to be sourced from a readily available source. The packaging consists of 2 parts—easily assembled—utilising foil pouches that were readily available in abundance after recent measures to curb plastic packaging in local restaurants, and a printed foldable card that could convey basic information, including pricing and a discount coupon for your next order. This allowed for the creation of packaging that maintained that aura of mystery—with a shiny, almost holographic finish, that still had a recognisable local connect, keeping true to the essence of the collective.

Available wholesale at inexpensive rates after recent public measures to reduce plastic packaging below a certain grammage in local restaurants, the foil pouches used were initially made for chutneys and gravies at local restaurants—but perfectly fit the 5-6 stickers that fit in a mystery pack. This, combined with the digital prints used as information cards on the packaging, allowed the Triple Eye Mystery Sticker Pack’s cost to drop down to the equivalent of less than 8 cents, as well as ensuring that the packaging could be made to order. Offers that allowed customers to mail back packaging for a discounting their next order, also ensured that wastage was reduced.
