Crimson China is a fictional premium tea brand, designed to deliver authentic flavors from china. It’s a set of 3 packs illustrating the beautiful legend of the heroic emperor Shen Nong and his accidental discovery of tea.

We always show how coffee smells, but not everyone concentrates on how fragrant the tea leaves are. This is my experimentation with disrupting the conventional packaging of tea in the market. Imagining tea dust in bottles used for perfumes I created a narrative around the primary packaging.

When I think of China, be it the Chinese new year or their ancient art form, red is the dominant color that comes to my mind. The brand name is inspired by this theme. My illustrations are inspired by the Chinese traditional art form and paintings.

Every label includes narratives of the illustration along with some description about the type of tea. The stories are :

  1. “Heroic emperor Shen Nong was sitting in his garden contemplating the world as his cauldron of water came to a boil”
  2. “The leaves boiled with the water for a good ten minutes before Shen Nong noticed them floating on the water. Curious, he ladled a cup of the water into a bowl and drank. Though the brew was quite bitter, the bitterness became sweetness in his mouth”
  3. “As the emperor sat and began to doze off, the wind picked up and carried a few wild tea leaves into the garden, wafting them straight into the cauldron”
