Cogumelado is a Brazilian foodtech startup which makes highly sophisticated and flavorful mushroom based vegan caned food. Developing this packaging was a long and complex project. First, we had to find a suitable food grade can which could be printed with reasonable quality (and reasonable cost), which was harder than expected, as usual when it comes to packaging design. Then we’ve carefully designed the label artwork, with a few things in mind:

• They should stand out from the competition and accurately represent Cogumelado’s innovative and bold stance.
• They should be attractive in order to capture the customer’s attention in visually competitive environments, such as supermarket shelves.
• They should be artistic and represent Brazil in colors, shapes and spirit.

It took us a while to get it right with the can supplier, because they haven’t produced something with this level of details before, and since this is a premium product, print quality was essential.

After quite a few months of development, I believe we’ve got an excellent result.

Also, to make use of the little extra room between the can and the lid, We’ve designed cardboard coasters with cool illustrations of recipe suggestions on one side and their details on the other, which contributes a lot to the overall product’s experience.

We’ve also designed a kit containing two of their flagship products and a custom enamel mug, packed in a fine carboard box printed with the artwork we’ve been developing for their social media, with a nice accordion leaflet printed with institutional information on one side and more of these selected artworks on the other, with the goal of enhancing the unboxing experience.
